KOLKATA|NEW DELHI: International offers, led by a sharp spike in US-based roles, are likely to surge at the Indian Institutes of Technology, based on initial trends, as the older IITs kicked off placements on Sunday. This season, US offers have made a big comeback after a lull of several years, with the likes of Microsoft, Uber, Salesforce, Cohesity, BNY Mellon, PayPal and Clumio offering lucrative jobs to the Class of 2020’s brightest.Japan, which has been the front-runner among international recruiters at the IITs in the last few placement seasons, continues its strong run, with the likes of Sony Japan, Mercari, Honda Japan, NTT-AT, SMS Datatech, Tonichi Insatsu Co and Diverta Inc vying for tech talent.Accenture has opened up international roles in Japan this year, say placement sources, while SAP Labs is hiring for openings in Germany. Deskera, AlphaGrep and Squarepoint Capital are hiring for roles in Singapore. 72324426 International offers had plummeted at the IITs for the Class of 2017, partly due to reduced US/Europe profiles. While foreign offers for the class of 2018 and 2019 saw an on-year rise, it was largely driven by a demand from Asia: companies based out of Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. This year, with the US back as a strong contender, and other Asian companies also scouting aggressively for tech talent, IITs have reason to cheer.“We are expecting double the number of offers in international profiles,” said a placement official at IIT Kharagpur, which has Sony Japan and PayPal visiting for the first time. On Day 1 itself, the institute saw a 50%, increase in international offers, with several over a crore, the institute said in a late release. At IIT Delhi, at least three new companies are offering US profiles this year. Honda Japan is coming while Deskera and AlphaGrep are among some of the Singapore companies coming this year. SAP Labs is offering a profile in Germany at IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur, among others."There has been a rise in international offers this year at Delhi compared to last year," said a source at the placement cell. IIT Delhi got 3 international offers in session 1 on Day 1. IIT Kanpur has half a dozen companies coming for US profiles in comparison to only half the number that visited last year.IIT Roorkee had already received 10 international offers in the first two slots. This is a big jump given that the institute had bagged a total of 13 international offers in the entire placement season last year. IIT Bombay bagged international offers from Microsoft, Uber and Optiver (which paid €130,000).IIT Madras had bagged four international offers: from Cohesity, Microsoft, Salesforce and Uber by the end of Session 1.1 while IIT Guwahati had the same number from Microsoft and Uber.IIT Hyderabad students received 6 international offers from companies such as TSMC, SMS DataTech and NTT-AT at the end of the first slot on Day 1. ET had reported on Friday that Salesforce, Microsoft, Cohesity and Uber are among the companies set to offer crore-plus packages.
