India administered 10.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines on Friday, the most in a single day since the country started its inoculation drive in January. Overall vaccinations crossed 622 million on Friday."Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.The previous record was on June 21 with 8.8 million doses."This is highest ever vaccination achieved in a single day since the start of our vaccination drive," the health ministry said. So far, 481 million first doses and 141 million second doses have been administered.Uttar Pradesh administered 2.9 million doses on Friday followed by Karnataka at 1.1 million and Maharashtra at 0.99 million.Earlier in the day, the health ministry said more than 599 million vaccine doses were provided to states and union territories. "More than 4.05 cr (40.5 million) doses still available with states/UTs to be administered," it said.NK Arora, chair of the Covid-19 working group, had told ET earlier that the country has capacity to do more. "The system has the capacity and as the vaccine doses are available, these can all be administered. I have repeatedly mentioned that we have the capacity to administer 1.25 crore doses per day," he had said.Arora had said that the numbers will rise in the coming months.
