Second wave of Covid has shaken India: Modi

After successfully tackling the first wave of COVID-19, the country's morale was high but this storm (second wave) has shaken the country, said PM Modi through his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat. "To tackle this wave of COVID, I have held meetings with experts from many fields like pharma industry, oxygen production etc," PM Modi said.Noting that COVID-19 is testing India's patience and capacity, PM appealed to all the Indians to seek information on coronavirus through reliable sources only. To allay the fears on vaccination, PM urged people to not fall prey to any rumour about vaccine."You all must be aware that Govt of India has sent free vaccine to all State Govts. All people above 45 yrs of age can benefit from this. From May 1st, vaccines will be available for every person above 18 years of age," he said.The prime minister also called upon India's corporate sector to participate in vaccination drive by getting their employees vaccinated.Govt of India's free vaccination program will continue in future too. I request states to ensure benefits of this free vaccination program reaches as many people as possible, PM added.With a record single-day rise of 3,49,691 new coronavirus infections, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to 1,69,60,172, while active cases crossed the 26-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.The death toll increased to 1,92,311 with a record 2,767 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 26,82,751 comprising 15.82 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 83.05 per cent.
